Code 11 is the most searched Noritz code. Start with the gas supply; everything past that belongs to a licensed contractor.
Safety first
If you smell gas, do not light anything or touch electrical switches. Leave the house and call SDG&E or 911 from outside. Manufacturers reserve gas, burner, venting and internal electrical work for qualified technicians.
Causes Noritz lists
- No gas, combustion air or spark.
- Not enough gas, such as an empty propane tank or low supply.
- The flame rod not sensing the flame.
What you can safely check
- Gas is on at the heater and the meter, or the propane tank is not empty.
- In California, an earthquake shutoff valve near the gas meter may have tripped. Noritz points this out for related codes; have the gas company or a plumber reset it.
When to call a plumber
Noritz says troubleshooting gas issues should be left to a professional and strongly recommends a licensed contractor. Flame rod and internal checks require opening the unit.
