E003 is the Navien code you are most likely to see with no hot water. Codes mean different things on Navien boilers, so this page covers the NPE-2 water heaters.
Safety first
If you smell gas, do not light anything or touch electrical switches. Leave the house and call SDG&E or 911 from outside. Manufacturers reserve gas, burner, venting and internal electrical work for qualified technicians.
What Navien says to do
- Make sure the main gas supply valve is open.
- Reset the water heater by pressing the Back button.
- If resetting does not solve it, contact Navien technical support (1-800-519-8794) or a qualified installer.
When to call a plumber
If the gas valve is open and E003 keeps returning, the cause is beyond what an owner should touch. Navien's manual says installation and service must be performed by a qualified installer, service agency or the gas supplier.
Common questions
Is Navien E003 the same on a Navien boiler?
No. Navien boilers use E003 too, with different guidance. Check the manual for your exact model.
