Troubleshooting

Water heater reset button keeps tripping

Short answer

The reset button on an electric water heater is a high-temperature limit, which A.O. Smith says operates only when abnormally high water temperatures are present. The manufacturer says a qualified service agent should find the reason before it is reset; Bradford White says to call an authorized service center. Repeated trips mean something is wrong and should not be ignored.
